Travel Auction: Is A Travel Auction "Legal" On eBay? {Absolutely!}
A travel auction is one of the issues that always incite disputes among eBay users. In the early days of eBay, anyone could sell travel items and in fact there was a vigorous travel auction business. But, as always, unscrupulous people took advantage, especially when selling vacation certificates.

Treading on dangerous ground:
The everyday practice shows that a travel auction is something de facto acceptable – there are at least three-four ongoing travel auctions at any time on eBay. The problem is that in order to sell it you must adhere to strict eBay rules.
First, you have to be a provider of a travel or a licensed travel agent. If you're individual that has nothing to do with travel business, you are limited to one sale a month.
What is more, also the kind of travel services you can sell is seriously limited (see eBay help for more information).
Precautions:
If you're about to start a travel auction on eBay, but you're still not sure if it's ok, you can still do it, but you have to take a few precautions first. The most important one is to contact the eBay customer service and get the acceptance for placing the travel auction on the site.
Another way is to construct your liability paragraph in a way that you won't be held responsible for the failure of the auction if it will be the eBay's fault. In short, you can't be too careful with a travel auction.
