Boat Auctions: Healthy Boat Auction Sales On eBay

Boat auctions are b-i-g business on eBay, both in terms of volume and price. The breath taking beauty below is an example of the popularity of an eBay auction as a selling venue. This 65 foot, 1986 Moss Point custom built yacht was refurbished and sold at a delicious (for the seller!) price of $250,000. The seller advertised it as being suitable for business excursions, living aboard at sea, as a pleasure cruiser, a possible charter boat or an exclusive dive boat. Obviously, somebody agreed with him.

2001 Beneteau 331 Oceanis 33 feet: $ 32,300

While this boat auction is very impressive, there are other equally pricey sales:

A "1999 SeaRay 330 Sundancer boat 33 Sea Ray" sold for $85,100.00 and earned a healthy 25 bids
A "1995 Albin 32 Command Bridge boat trawler diesel" was bid up to $75,100, and received an amazing 31 bids - this high number is amazing because of the price of the auctioned goodies
A "2000 Checkmate ZT-330 Cigarette Boat" went for $73,998 and had 9 bids. ( Amusingly, there was an eBay "gift icon" in this auction. A boat like this would be quite a gift! I would be happy to accept it, myself :-)
This "2001 Formula 280 Bow Rider boat TWIN 350 MAGS 28' 600HP" sold for $50,100.00 and had 26 bids
A colorful "2000 Donzi 28 ZX 28-Foot Boat" was auctioned off at $47,900 and received 19 bids
A sporty "1974 28Ft Bertram Flybridge Fishing Boat" was auctioned at $47,100 with a large number (34) of bids
A "1995 Bayliner Power Boat 4587" sold for an amazing $130,000.00 with 4 bidders competing
A "1995 Bayliner Power Boat 4587", almost identical to the Bayliner above, sold for $99,858.00 and received 5 bids

It is clear that the boat auction market on eBay is strong. For example, the Bayliner auction above that sold for $130,000 received 1920 views. This is a lot for such an expensive item.

eBay lists its boat inventory in one of four categories:

* Fishing Boats
* Powerboats
* Sailboats
* Other Boats

In addition, eBay offers other services on its site, such as marine insurance, financing and how to ensure the safety of any transaction. Cars are eBay Motors #1 best seller, but boat sales are also encouraged and promoted, even though they are a lesser volume than vehicles.

And, naturally, there is a brisk trade in boat-related items, such as covers, trailers, jet skis, parts, fishing and water sporting gear, clothing and artwork.

Boat auctions are a healthy and strong stream of income on eBay, and sellers with appropriate merchandise would do well to consider this area of sales.
