Sell Things On eBay: Online Auctions Besides eBay

Online Auctions Besides eBay: Are There REALLY Any Auctions Besides eBay?

Are there any online auctions besides eBay that are worth bothering with? Yes and no. There definitely is life off-eBay, but the buyers aren't as numerous. Still, many folks prefer the more relaxed atmosphere of other auctions and don't like all the rules and restriction of eBay. Here are three alternatives (in alphabetical order).

Amazon Online Auction

Amazon auctions cost 10 cents to list and 5% final value fees. Amazon also offers these selling opporunities:

1. Amazon Marketplace is the best place to sell new, used, refurbished and collectible items - you list your item right alongside the same item carried by Amazon. Amazon collects no fees unless you sell.

2. Amazon also offers zshops, which cost $39.95/month, but you can list an unlimited number of items.

ePier Online Auction
http://epier.com

ePier uses the s ame format as eBay and its quite a determined site. It was three years before they made any profits but the founders hung in there and are doing well now. According to ePier, the seller benefits are:* You do not pay, if you do not sell.* Free Auction Image Hosting for ePier Sellers (a $29.95 value Free) * No Listing fee* No Insertion fee* Low Final Value Fee

Overstock
Online Auction

Overstock is quite a lively site and one that is most likely to provide genuine competiton for eBay. They have 'chutzpah', too (meaning lots of nerve) ... they showed up at eBay Live 2005 in a spectacular car, advising attendees to move to Overstock auctions.

Which online auctions (besides eBay) are best?

My choice for #1 is Overstock. They're active, creative and bold.

Amazon and ePier are a tossup. Amazon is, of course, gigantic, compared to ePier ... but ePier is passionate about auctions and spends all its time, attention and resources on auctions, while for Amazon, they're only a tiny part of the Amazon empire.

BOTTOM LINE: there is just more money to be made on eBay than anywhere else. I don't like this - competition makes it better for sellers. But it's the way it is ... right now. Things change, though, so who knows what the future will hold?
