Discount Fabrics: Discount Fabric Can Be A Good Savings But Learn To Choose Wisely

When shopping around for fabrics, it is very important to take a good look on the quality before purchasing discount fabrics from discount stores.  If you try to shop for fabrics from a quilt shop, you may be surprised to find similar fabrics sold at discount stores at a very cheap price.  How can discount stores offer the same types of fabric at a lower price?

Discount stores make use of quality fabrics which are also used by quilt shop stores.  However, the difference comes in when they try to apply prints or dyes on the fabric.  Discounts stores use low-quality dyes on the fabric which allows them to save significant amounts of money.  Additionally, they do not bother to seal the dyes on these fabrics so that the colors will bleed once these fabrics are washed. 

Another strategy would be to use poor quality fabrics and make them look like they’re designer fabrics simply by printing a designer name on them.  Thus, it would seem as though you’re saving a great deal of your money from such designer fabrics when in truth, they’re not branded all but just ordinary fabrics.

For this reason, it is important to be very meticulous when buying your fabrics from local discount stores.  However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t find real quality discount fabrics from discount stores.  In fact, some of these stores do sell high-quality fabrics at a more affordable price compared to quilt shops or fabric boutiques.  This is because fabric manufacturers supply them with such quality materials at a discounted rate because of their large order.  By purchasing high quality fabrics in bulk, these stores can also afford to sell these for retail at a discount.

Of course, if you don’t know much about fabrics and you can’t tell which fabrics are of good quality and which are not, it may not be advisable for you to purchase from discount stores.  If you have a friend who knows more about fabrics, better take her along to examine the discount fabrics you want to buy.  It would also be great if you know someone from the discount store.  Thus, you can ask for real quality fabrics without worrying that you’ll be given an expensive price.  Otherwise, you’ll be better off purchasing from a quilt store.  Although you would have to pay more, at least you’re guaranteed of the quality of your fabrics.
